Your Rights as a Resident
As a resident or a potential resident of an Adult Family Home (AFH) or care facility, you are entitled to specific rights that protect your well-being, dignity, and privacy:
1. Right to Informed Consent
You have the right to receive all the information necessary to make informed decisions about your care, including risks, benefits, and alternatives.
2. Right to Privacy
Your personal and medical information must be kept confidential. You can expect private communication, private visits, and respect for personal space.
3. Right to Quality Care
You are entitled to receive appropriate and adequate care based on your individual needs. This includes medical care, assistance with daily activities, and emotional support.
4. Right to Dignity and Respect
You have the right to be treated with respect and dignity in all aspects of your care, including the choice of daily routines and personal preferences.
5. Right to Participate in Care Decisions
You should be involved in planning and decision-making concerning your care, and have the right to refuse care, if desired.
6. Right to Be Free from Abuse and Neglect
You have the right to live in a safe environment, free from physical, emotional, or financial abuse and neglect.
7. Right to File Complaints
You are entitled to express concerns about your care or treatment without fear of retaliation, and your concerns must be addressed in a timely manner.
